Voting in Zimbabwe is becoming endangered

Image
We have seen wildlife and vegetation under the scope of scientist labelled as endangered and suffering extinction. The scenario brings tears to the current generation for the future as they will not see these species that have lived on earth. Everyone wishes if they had seen the dinosaurs but the generation then did not care. Today we protect even dangerous and poisons species of plant and animals to save them from extinction.   The same predicament is looming Zimbabwe`s political sphere, where voting will die with the revolutionary generation. The voting trend in Zimbabwe has gradually dropped and took a nose dive in 2008 harmonised election. Revolutionary folks have given this disaster a blind eye. Of interest is the probable situation looming Zimbabwe`s political future where 67% of the youths who could participated in the 2008 harmonised election but only 18% of the 67% voted. This leaves a lot to be desired when this generation becomes the elders of Zimbabwe. What w

Caught between Scylla and Charybdis: Youth education vis a vis employment in Zimbabwe

Scylla and Charybdis were mythical sea monsters. Later Greek tradition sited them on opposite sides of the Strait of Messina between Sicily and the Italian mainland. Scylla was rationalized as a rock shoal (described as a six-headed sea monster) on the Italian side of the strait and Charybdis was a whirlpool off the coast of Sicily. They were regarded as a sea hazard located close enough to each other that they posed an inescapable threat to passing sailors; avoiding Charybdis meant passing too close to Scylla and vice versa. A perfect metaphor for the situation in Zimbabwe pertaining education and employment when youths call for “Building a Better World: Partnering with Youth.” Our education is not in tandem with the employment opportunities and neither does it provide a basis of formulating self-employment. It is a challenge that young people can hardly deny the current education curricular which is almost irrelevant to our s

The job freeze by the government is youth discriminatory

As a young person in the humanitarian work it irks the mind to continuously hear the government extending its till forever notice on employment. The recent call by the Minister of finance on freezing of employment is ridiculous when it comes to this government commitment towards young people. I wonder what is wrong with the people who sit in parliament and senate. I doubt the intellectual capacity in relation to sustainable Zimbabwe. I know some cohort will start saying this writer is unpatriotic. The government is pouring monies through the Youth Fund to start their projects this writer is naïve. Naïve my naïve I have to say. Not all of us young people want some damned stupid projects in an unfavourable business and economic environment. Alas when someone is doing a Bachelor in Education, its definite one wants to be a teacher not start a school. Look again at an engineering student, one need all monies set for the Youth Fund to start a vibrant engineering company. The same applies t

Leadership Success is No Longer Measured by Money or Power

Image
What is leadership success? Is it money, promotions, happiness, raising a family, changing the world, or advancing your industry or community? This simple question has grown complicated over the years, so it’s more important than ever to clarify what success means. Leadership success is measured by one’s complete body of work in life: nothing more, nothing less. Historically, leadership success has been associated with money and power. The more you have, the more successful you are. This is a false idea of success. How many people do you know that have money and power that are also happy, ethical, and purposeful? Sure, there are a few – but only a few. While I support free enterprise, it’s important to put things into perspective. There are a lot of people who are successful but not wealthy. They view success through a lens that balances their professional, personal and spiritual lives.   Leadership success is earned and its impact is timeless. The post-200
